After hearing the last Manson album I was a little weary as to what he’d be putting out next. Marilyn Manson is an artist that I ADORE – the controversy, the voice, the image, the fashion, the PERFORMANCE. After hearing a few of the tracks off of his upcoming release, “The High End of the Low” I have zero doubts that he is OVER as a musician.
The tracks are addictive and amazing, the artist that I’ve been dying to hear! On this release we get dramatic confessionals “Four Rusted Horses”, anti-establishment anthems “Arma-goddamn-motherfuckin-geddon” and a single that is to be remembered “We’re From America.”
Could it be the additional genius of Twiggy, co-author of “Antichrist Superstar” Manson’s most memorable album to date? Whatever it is, it’s WORKING!!
I am definitely looking forward to see and hear what Brian Warner has been creating in his Hollywood lair. He is the epitome of ARTIST. www.marilynmanson.com
I’m really liking the look he has created for the album – the glowstick goth atmosphere and strange expression. Manson NEVER looks the same! What will the music video(s) look like? A perfect hire for Manson would be Justin Coloma, who is creating and keeping the gothic mythology alive through film as well.
You can hear a few of the tracks here (thanks to @mansonnews) –

What are your thoughts? Manson is an incredibly interesting subject.
Listening To – Marilyn Manson “Wow”
HAPPY 420!

Ron Howard’s screen adaptation of Dan Brown’s bestselling novel The Da Vinci Code was released today in theatres worldwide. The first showing of the day was sold out in my area so I attended the second one. Based on the 11:30 am Friday showing being sold out, I’m predicting this movie is going to be very popular!
Before the movie was released I thought the trailer looked extremely thrilling. The web URL for the movie called out to me too: http://sodarktheconofman.com/ The URL’s meaning was revealed not very long into the movie as we quickly found out that according to Dan Brown, Patriarchal Christianity is the con of man.
Brown uses symbols like Da Vinci’s “The Last Supper” painting to express this point of view. Ian McKellan (one of my favorite actors), who plays “Sir Leigh Teabing” an obsessive Holy Grail scholar, points out that in this painting Mary Magdalene is seated right next to Jesus Christ but is often overlooked as a man. He goes on to explain that their clothing is a mirror image of one another, and the gap between the two of them even forms a “V.” The V being the feminine symbol for the womb. When Mary is digitally cropped and moved next to Jesus on the opposite side of him she is perfectly resting her head on his shoulder too.
Overall the screen adaptation of The Da Vinci Code was extremely moving and captivating. I adore learning about religion through art.
Dan Brown isn’t the first artist to believe such things. My favorite musicians Tori Amos and Sinead O’Connor do too. Tori actually wrote my favorite song, “Muhammad My Friend” from her 1996 Boys for Pele album about the female side of God.
The novel stirred up the Papacy a little bit, I wonder if this movie will enlighten the hardcore Christians to understanding the religion in a non-literal manner. It’s a definite must-see for anyone who’s ever been oppressed or has had truth hidden from them.
[For those further interested in Comparative Religion, I highly recommend Joseph Campbell]

I decided to entwine all the net work I do into my own site! This will be a place for me to write about anything I want. I will primarily be writing about Art though, hence the title. When I speak of Art I mean all kinds of Art – music, movies, books, paintings, etc. Soon I will be reviewing the advance Regina Spektor album, “Begin to Hope.” Stay Reading… xoxo.
